N Roll 135816 Gold Chain Lubricant, 4-Ounce

I have been using this lubricant on my gravel and city bikes for several years now. I went on 300+ mile backpacking trips and have used it extensively all year round (snow, rain, sunshine). The lube is easy to clean off and apply, does not attract too much gunk on the chain and lasts a considerable while: I tend to re-apply every 50-100 miles if not affected by rain or snow.I have also used it successfully when participating in local 100 mile races, and it lasted the entire distance. The bottle is a very good size - does not take up too much space, holds a large volume but is easily packable.One note, the emulsion does not hold and separates quite quickly, so a quick vigorous shake before each application is important for optimal results - not that this is a downside.

So much nicer than conventional chain oil. Application is easier, faster, and less messy.

It's super easy to use and it doesn't make a big mess and cleaned up my chains really well. It can be applied straight to the chain without needing to strip existing lube, due to the potent solvent, but do yourself a favor and squirt this on after running your chain through a rag first to get off all the old muck.Shake well and apply a stream of lube to the chain at the cassette.Do not drip the lube on like you would with oil. Get the chain really wet, this stuff cleans and lubes all in one. Wipe off all the excess lube...all of it, wipe the chain as clean as it will get. You're done. Add more in about 200 miles.

Perfect lube! Light, but not too sheer, long lasting, silky-smooth shifts, does not attract excess dirt, perfect for road biking! Over the course of many years of avid cycling (typically 4000-8000 mi/season), my years as a bike store manager or employee, as a ride leader for 3 different bike organizations and an organizer of independent week-long bicycle tours, I can tell you I've tried many different brands and types of chain lubes. Everything from wet lubes, Teflon, ceramic, wax, and all types of dry lubes. And I just cannot find a lube that performs as well as RNR Gold. I always keep a couple bottles around as I don't want to run out. I find it performs very well when you clean your drive train every 200-250 miles and apply 1 drop per link. Run your chain backwards for 30 seconds or so, then try as hard as you can to wipe off all the excess until your rag is "clean." Don't forget to "floss" your cogs and clean your pulleys and chainrings, too. If you do this you'll find your shifts are smoother, quieter and faster, and your drive train will last beyond their projected life. (Disclaimer: if your drive train is in need of a tune up and your chain is in need of replacement no amount of superior lube is going to make your shifts good! Get your bike to the shop for a tune up and possible replacement of parts first!) I have one bike with over 35000 miles and all the original drive train parts (Shimano DuraAce grupo, 2008). I retired the bike years ago, but still ride it occasionally when my current road bike is having a tune up. Still is a beautiful ride! I have to say, keeping the drive train clean and lubing with a quality lubricant like RNR Gold is the best long term maintenance you can do to keep your bike performing optimally! Happy trails!

Difficult to apply as your supposed to have a steady stream of lube going on chain as you turn the crank. Sounds good in theory but frustrating in practice. Applied to chain twice and half the bottle is gone. Made a mess of my floor and bike. Can't comment on performance as I'm going to use a different lube. I'm too used to applying a drop of lube to each chain pin. I do have to say this lube does a good job cleaning the chain so I'm giving a four star instead of three.

The instructions say to not be skimpy with it because it cleans as well as lubes. With the drip bottle you can apply a generous amount without going nuts, so it's not like you're wasting it. Do a thorough wipe-down (can't wipe it too much) and sure enough it stays pretty clean. I'm a happy camper.

Degreaser and lube in one? Yes way!My old Finish Line dry lube wouldn't work, so I went on Amazon and bought this. I had noticed that some waxy black substance accumulating in my chain from the dry lube and it always bothered me. Applied this lube liberally to the chain on the cassette and did a few rotations. Soon enough I started hearing this horrible crunching sound as all the dirt and metal particles sitting in the chain dissolved and came to surface. My bike chain, crank, and gears all appeared to be covered with this thick black crud. It was gross. So the work began. I wiped off this substance, reapplied lube, and found more. So I wiped again and reapplied and wiped. I kind of lost track how many times and resorted to using a toothbrush towards the end to help with the cleaning. By the end of the ordeal I had used up almost half the bottle, which is horrifying, since this stuff is not cheap although I guess it's not bad since it qualifies as both a degreaser and lube in one. At the end, I would't say the chain was spotlessly clean, but it was a lot better than it was before. While the grease-cutting powers of the volatile solvents in this lubricant are more apparent at first, the lube dries to a waxy substance similar to other dry lube. Only time will tell whether this outperforms other dry lube. If it can keep the chain clean without build-up and prevent corrosion for the next month, then I say we have a winner.
