Great to make bird seed cylinders
In order to make a bird seed cylinder I needed a dowel to insert into the middle of the seed mixture while it was still wet. I ordered these dowels for that reason. These 6-inch dowels work perfectly because the containers that I am using to make the seed cylinders are about 5 inches high. The quality of the wood and the finishing of the dowel made them smooth, so I did not need to worry about getting a splinter handling them. I have used the same 10 dowels several times and they have not warped. This package of 25 will last a long time.

Good for karate and weaving
I bought these for a wildly disconnected pair of purposes. One, to use to do four dent weaving on a ridged heddle loom. Two, for a stick to use for bojitsu practice indoors in the winter. It works for both. For weaving, it is sturdy enough to support 32 inches of stitches across the length of the loom lifted together for a weaving pattern. For here, strength was a primary concern. If it was prone to bowing or warping it would not have worked for the purposes as the warp threads would have been lifted unevenly or unreliably. I used cotton as a tie to the threads and it worked without a hitch. High marks for strength. For bojitsu, smoothness was a main concern. I needed to be able to slide my hand along it from position to position. I knew it would not be long enough for some things, and that was an intended trade-off for being able to work in a smaller space. I did need to be able to switch grips however, and that requires smooth wood and that I can do with this. Hi marks for even, smooth wood. If you are concerned about fiber catching, don't be.So, thus far these have worked for both purposes to which I set them, odd as those purposes may be. I can say these look great, no signs of damage, splitting, or trouble on the wood at all. I can say, if I wanted to use them for something like a banner, I would not hesitate. They’re quality.
