Wow! I started with the 5-button Kindle in 2011 and acquired various tablets from Amazon and others along the way. The post 2011 devices had the same problems: they didn't work well in sunlight and were too bright for my nighttime reading. Phones and tablets interrupted reading with e-mails, texts, calls, updates, etc. Other than the 5-button Kindle, they were "heavy."The new green kindle works outside in Texas sunlight, inside on the couch, and in bed. This Kindle weights less than my 5-button Kindle and easily fits in my shoulder bag or gym shorts.My charging station charges the new Kindle in minutes.My audible books play via Bluetooth to a Bluetooth speaker when needed. Said another way, if you wish, you can listen to books or leave the speaker at home or in the trunk of your car - no weight and no wires.I still use and love the 5-button Kindle, but the green Kindle is a wow.Finally - set up. There is no setup. Amazon configures it in advance. You turn it on and start reading. Because of my experience with Kindles from 2011, there was no learning or need for a manual. However, I wanted to find the answer to a question and went to Amazon's FAQ and "Help" webpage.This is the best Kindle I've owned (still love my 5-button Kindle).

I bought my new Kindle two days ago after deciding I needed to consolidate my book collection into a device that would be more comfortable to read after my husband goes to sleep (I love the dark mode!!). It was delivered same day which was super convenient. I immediately took advantage of the Unlimited free trial and blew through a 400 page book in 2 days-- partially attribution to the ease of using this the Kindle. The Kindle is super light and really small, so I was really surprised when the font was super easy to read. It was so comfortable to hold in bed while I laid on my side too, as I do most of my reading before bed. The color is super cute as well-- the only drawback is that I couldn't afford a higher end version that I Imagine would be in color and a bit most seamless in scrolling. Sometimes it takes a minute to load the settings and other pages, but when I'm actually reading a book, it swipes through pages super quickly.

I own the earliest kindle fire, and it still works, but it’s losing its ability to hold a charge. I’ve reached the tipping point where convenience becomes hassle, so I’m here buying a new model.I typically only use a kindle when traveling, but I broke my arm two weeks ago, and I find that while the kindle fire is much easier to manage than hardcover books, I still have to use a triangular pillow to hold the kindle fire, because it’s too heavy and awkward for one-handed long reads. (I have a bit of arthritis in my hands, too).I landed on the basic kindle because all of them stay charged forever nowadays, and I don’t need a color display. Secondarily I realized this one is both the cheapest and the lightest! Score!I did pay to remove the ads, and I love seeing the cover of my current book on the snoozing screen.I was shocked to find this little effer is lighter than my iPhone 16 pro! It’s easy to read in daylight or at night. I can hold it in one hand—and turn pages with the same hand!—with practice, but without fatigue.I can pick a font and spacing that replicates a book page. This is surprisingly comforting.Daytime glare is virtually nonexistent.I bought a silicone hand-strap for the back of it, but a simple pop-socket would work. (Note that it’s so lightweight it doesn’t have the heft to stay in the palm of one’s hand without fingers actively grasping it.)I love this kindle. Its compact size fits in my smallest, flattest crossbody, and it adds no weight to my load. I think it is glass-free, where the kindle fire has a heavy tempered glass screen. I feel like I can read anywhere again—it will shave a pound off my carry-on (between the kindle fire and the paperback book I usually pack for charging snafus) and makes reading at home virtually effortless.

This has all the core features you need to begin reading ebooks with basically no fluff and I love it. As a very casual reader I greatly appreciate Amazon offering a cheaper kindle that’s small, light, easy to read, and has a great light. Yes there are nicer models available, but this really is a core kindle and it’s features vs price is spot on. I highly recommend it to those looking to read more who also want to save a few bucks.

A Matcha-Made-in-Heaven KindleI’m in love with my new Kindle Basic in matcha green—it’s compact, cute, and crazy convenient. I received a Kindle Colorsoft as a gift from my husband earlier this year (which I do love), and originally thought I’d make my Oasis my go-to for travel. But truthfully, it was just too big and awkward to toss into my sling bag or carry comfortably on the go.Enter my sweet little Kindle Basic—what I now fondly call my baby azz Kindle. It’s light as a feather, zips into any bag without fuss, and gets the job done without the bulk. I did have a brief moment of seller’s remorse for my Oasis, but that vanished the second I started using the new Matcha out and about.The only reason this isn’t a full 5 stars? I really wish it had the warm light feature—my eyes definitely miss that cozy glow during nighttime reading. But even so, this Kindle is basically perfect for everything else. If you’re on the fence, just get it. Your shoulder, your bag, and your inner minimalist will thank you. Bonus points for looking adorable in matcha green and pairing perfectly with a pink case. She’s a whole vibe.
