Worked well and stopped the leak in the power steering rack !

The power steering rack was replaced on my Ford Focus in March 2016 (MOT failure). Two years on and the replacement rack started to lose fluid resulting in an MOT failure this year (2018). As this Lucas product seemed to have good overall reviews, I thought I'd give it a go before paying out 350 Pounds + for another steering rack !Like other reviewers, I removed the power steering fluid from the reservoir using a cheap plastic turkey baster and refilled to the MAX cold mark with the Lucas Stop Leak product. After starting the engine it's advisable to gently turn the steering wheel by just a small amount, side-to-side, from the centre position to allow the thicker fluid, just added, to flow into the rack and mix with the existing power steering fluid, hence reducing the possibility of internal damage caused by the initial higher pressure. After adding around half of the bottle (including a couple of 'top-ups') over a period of two weeks, the fluid level in the power steering reservoir has remained at the MAX cold level mark when checked. The car passed the MOT retest on this particular issue, so I'd say this Lucas product has been a great success, in my particular case, but may not be able to 'fix' more pronounced leaks caused by excessively worn oil seals in the steering rack and/or steering pump.

didn't stop but did slow down leak

Sadly my leak was too bad for this stuff to work, but it did slow the leak down and allowed me to get home so useful emergency to have bottle just in case but does not stop all leaks, so if you have damaged pipes/tubes then not going to help.

Beware!!

Seriously pay attention of what i'm going to mention here!! First thing first for those who are unaware of, this oil is thick actually very thick therefore it won't flow down at ease just like a ordinary one. You're going to be fine if you are just topping up, that being said if there is enough in the tank though!! As for me i emptied the top up tank and as a result, poor it down and check the level all seems to be okay at first but then after starting the engine up heard a loud whirring noise from the engine and thought something gone wrong somewhere but essentially after immense speculation found out that the noise was coming right from the power steering pump itself due to lack of fluid!! Opened the cap and check it out fluid was nowhere!! Anyhow top it up for the 2nd time and start it up again and guess what?! Noise is still present!! Got me worried if it was too late and might have end up damage the pump in the process!! So once again for the 3rd time top it up however this time i left the engine on as it might help with better circulation through the system. However, as it turn out i filled it up and actually i went above the requiring measuring level just to be on the safe side and leave it running for a short while see what is what. Ultimately the whirring noise came down a lot better compare to the first time but somehow i wasn't fully satisfied so went for another look if the level drop down or instead some of it needed to remove this time for a change cos remember i overfilled it on purpose so. Oof.. annoyingly enough the level dropped for a 4th time!! Not even close to the required level again!! So obviously went to fill it up all over, AGAIN!! To summit this awful experience, i will honestly say essentially lost count of how many miserable times i have topped it up!!! Mind you i'm expecting some more topping up for tomorrow due to the way its been going so far, evidently!!! Besides still a bit of whirring noise going on which causing a bit of concern hence i'm trying to warn you guys asap!!!!!!!!!!! Like i said if you are just topping up while fluid is still present in the top up tank of the power steering pump then you are going to be absolutely fine. However, forget about emptying the whole system cos by just emptying the tank on its own will cause you this problem i'm having without any doubt!! IMPORTANT notes: For your own sake please make sure after topping up you MUST turn the steering wheel to fully left and right while the car is OFF (ignition on which allows you to turn the wheel). Afterward it might need some more top up and if not then you can safely start the car however keep an eyes on the fluid level cos like i mentioned above it is really really thick hence takes time to pass through. Good Luck.

Worked well

Used this to quieten a noisy power steering pump, it worked as directed and the steering feels and sounds better and the steering is smoother.

Heard Good Things, But Didn’t Work for My Land Rover

I’ve heard a lot of people swear by this power steering locking fluid, so I thought I’d give it a go on my Land Rover’s leaky system. Well, the fluid might work wonders for smaller leaks, but it didn’t exactly work magic on my Land Rover. It’s like trying to convince a stubborn mule to dance—doesn’t matter how good the product is, if your Land Rover's in a mood, it’s not having it. The leak? Still there. The steering? Still making those “I’m about to break down” noises. Guess my Land Rover isn’t quite ready for the “miracle cure” just yet. Still, if your car's just being a little dramatic and not fully broken down, it might be worth a shot!

Did the job no complaints

Great quality and value for money. Would highly recommend as a short-term repair to leaky steering pump greatly reduced noise
